1. What is Travel Insurance?

Travel or (trip) insurance covers many things that could go wrong with your trip. It was designed to give you peace of mind and help protect you against unforeseen events. It's important to know that while it covers many things, it doesn’t cover everything. We recommend you read and understand all the terms and conditions of the policy you plan to purchase.

2. Why Purchase Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance is important to add to your list as you plan your travels. It offers financial protection as well as personal protection for you when you travel. For example, if anything besides certain weather issues, medical issues, or invalid cancellations happens, you will not need to come out of pocket to cover expenses.

3. About Travelex Travel Insurance?

Travelex provides excellent benefits to protect your entire trip. From cancellations and lost baggage to 24-hour travel and emergency medical assistance, they've got you. They also give you the option to customize your travel insurance plan to best suit your needs. They have three available plans: Travel Select, Travel Basics, and Travel America. You can also upgrade as needed. Keep reading to understand specific coverages provided by Travelex.

Medical and Dental Coverage

The Travelex Travel Med plan provides on-trip emergency medical expense coverage – plus much more. If you’re only looking for medical insurance for your trip, this plan includes up to $10,000 of coverage for emergency medical expenses (including up to $500 for dental-related expenses) as well as other post-departure benefits to help protect you financially.

Medical Evacuation & Repatriation

Travel insurance with emergency evacuation and repatriation benefits is essential to protecting yourself against expenses relating to injury. If you are involved in an accident or experience a serious injury while traveling, an emergency medical evacuation can provide safe transportation to a medical facility. Similarly, should you or a traveling companion pass away while on vacation, repatriation benefits can cover the cost of transporting remains home or to the intended place of rest. Always refer to Travelex policy’s terms for more details.

Trip Cancellation and Interruption

Things happens. This is why it's so important to be prepared for your trip. Who wants to have to cut their vacation short or cancel for any reason? To help you feel more in control during unexpected situations, Travelex’s Trip Cancellation and Interruption benefit helps ensure you’re financially protected should you have to cancel your trip for a covered reason.

Coverage: Travel Basic plan, 100% reimbursement of your insured trip cost, up to $10,000.

Coverage: Travel Select plan, 100% reimbursement of your insured trip cost, up to a maximum of $50,000.

Coverage: Travel America plan, 100% reimbursement of your prepaid, non-refundable insured trip cost, up to $750 (shared across all insureds).

Cancel For Any Reason: is an optional travel insurance upgrade only available with the Travel Select plan. If you’re not 100% confident in your travel plans, this upgrade enables you to cancel an insured trip and receive up to 50% of the trip cost.

Missed Connection: Missed connection coverage is a useful - and commonly utilized - travel insurance benefit. With missed connection coverage, you can be reimbursed for money spent on changing your travel plans after a missed connection.

Damage to Baggage & Delay Coverage

With Travelex, baggage coverage is automatically included on Travel Select, Travel Basic, Travel America, Travel Med, and Flight Insure Plus plans. Plans cover lost or stolen luggage, valuable items, passports, and other travel documents.

Coverage: Travel Select plan provides up to $1,000 in baggage coverage,

Coverage: Travel Basic offers a maximum of $500,

Coverage: Travel America offers a maximum of $2,000,

Coverage: Travel Med offers a maximum of $1,000.

Coverage: Flight Insure Plus Plan offers up to $1,000 in baggage coverage

Accidental Death & Dismemberment

While traveling, there are many different scenarios where you might need AD&D coverage. This can include your flights, the ride to your hotel, renting a car, and any activities on your trip. AD&D coverage is also helpful if you're going to be participating in any extreme activities or sports while on vacation.

Rental Car Damage

If you're planning a road trip, you should consider protecting yourself with travel insurance before embarking on your journey. Many people purchase travel insurance for their expensive international trips but don't think to buy travel insurance when taking a trip in the car. However, like any type of travel, road trips come with a certain amount of risk. You never know if you’ll end up in an accident or need medical assistance through no fault of your own, so you'll want to be prepared.

Adventure Sports and Activity Coverage

Standard travel insurance plans can cover certain activities such as hiking and snorkeling - as well as modest sports like archery - however, specific travel insurance for adventure sports is often needed to provide the extra coverage required for adrenaline junkies. With the Travelex’s Adventure Sports Coverage upgrade, activities such as heli-skiing, mountain climbing, professional sports, or operating an aircraft can receive financial and medical protection. That way, should an unexpected incident occur during your adventure holiday, it doesn’t have to ruin your trip.

24-Hour Travel Assistance

If you are traveling and need emergency assistance or aid, Travelex’s travel insurance plans include 24/7 global assistance provided by World Travel Protection. No matter where you are or when you wish to call, contact the emergency assistance team.

4. Flight Insurance

Flight Insurance is an added benefit worth considering if you’re looking for a travel insurance plan that provides specific coverage from take-off to touchdown. Travelex Insurance offers two distinct levels of Flight Insurance: Flight Insure and Flight Insure Plus. Flight Insure is for travelers who want only the basics of their trip covered. This plan provides coverage for incidents including trip delay and flight accidents. Flight Insure Plus covers essentials with the added benefit of providing protection for baggage delays, as well as emergency medical and dental expenses and evacuations.

5. Travel Med Insurance

Travelex’s Travel Med insurance provides coverage for various on-trip benefits, making it suitable for both unplanned adventures and trips with few pre-paid expenses. It helps protect against unexpected financial expenses that incur while you’re traveling – without requiring you to pay for pre-trip cancellation coverage you’re unlikely to use.

6. Does Travel Insurance Cover Covid-19?

Travelex Insurance provides valuable coverage should you or a family member contract coronavirus before or during your trip. A Travelex travel insurance plan can provide coverage for trip cancellation if you or a traveling companion test positive for coronavirus and must physically quarantine as a result, as certified by a physician. Additionally, if a non-traveling family member is diagnosed with the coronavirus and a physician determines that it is life-threatening or they require your care, you will be eligible for coverage. If you or a traveling companion contract coronavirus while traveling, and it is diagnosed by a physician, you could be eligible for trip interruption, trip delay, emergency medical and medical evacuation coverage.
